ONS Doctor List--I Need Your Help

Happy holidays! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is looking forward to a brand new year. I know I am! 2009 was a little rough (at least the first half) but I am so hopeful for the future so I think this New Year's will call for quite a celebration on my part.

In the spirit of giving, I want to be able to give readers a list of doctors that they can go to if they are interested in a nerve stimulator. I'm interested in any doctors/surgeons that use occipital or peripheral nerve stimulators as a treatment for headaches, migraines, occipital neuralgia, etc. .. basically any diagnosis associated with head pain. I get a lot of requests for this information but haven't had much luck putting together more than a handful of names. It would be an invaluable resource for blog readers. So if you would, please send me your doctor's name and/or the name of the medical facility they are associated with, as well as the city they are located in. You can list it in the "comments" section if you are comfortable with that, or email me at onstim@gmail.com.

Thanks for your help! The information you give me may serve to help someone else control their pain and that is one of the greatest gifts you can give, in my opinion.

  2. Trying this a second time - I got goofed up typing the first time and had to delete because of that...

My surgeon was Dr. Nagy Mekhail at the pain management center at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland OH. They do lots of implants there, spinal and otherwise.

Dr. Dodick at Mayo's in Scottsdale AZ also does occipital stimulators.

I couldn't find anyone in Missouri that does these, but someone had told me that they thought the University of Missouri Med Center in Columbia MO was going to start.

I haven't had it done yet, but my appointment for consultation is next month.

  4. Yay! I just spoke with the Medtronic rep in Canada and she gave some really helpful information.

The procedure for ONS for pain management (back pain, knee pain, headache pain - it doesn't matter - therefore in Canada at least, the procedure is not considered "off label") is done in three places.

London Ontario (Dr. Andrew Parrent), Montreal and Vancouver. I didn't get the docs names in Montreal or Vancouver because if I stay in my own province it's covered by my provincial health care. If I were to go out of province, my extended health care would pick up the balance, but why do that if I don't have to?

    Good news!

  6. My surgeon is Dr. Linqui Zhou in Woodbury, NJ. He does implants for spine and headache.

He has an incredible personality (patient first!) and there is absolutely no waiting when you go to your appointment. If it is at 10:00 am, then you are seen at that time. All questions are listened to seriously and answered with respect.

I've referred a friend to him already and she likes him too. She is in the process of seeing if she is a candidate.
